Why do we walk for peace on Mother’s Day?

Statistics around violence in the U.S. and our Greater Boston communities can be hard to absorb and can sometimes feel remote. The Mother’s Day Walk For Peace connects the impact of gun deaths and other violence back to mothers, parents, families, and communities that are harmed by violence.

Who was Louis D. Brown, the namesake of the Peace Institute? Louis was a 15 year old high school honors student killed by gunfire in Boston on his way to a youth group meeting. Just a few weeks ago, the city of Boston declared April 13, 2022, “Louis D. Brown Day” on what would have been Louis’ 44th birthday.

Louis is still missed. Louis was our neighbor. Attached to every terrible statistic is a grieving family, a fractured community, and a life cut short.

Take a stand for peace by joining or supporting the St. Paul’s walkers on May 8, 2022.
